If you have never crossed the border before then this is for you.
If you have crossed before then maybe I have some tips for you.
We recommend purchasing Mexico Insurance for your vehicle before entering into Mexico. Check out ridebaja.com to purchase online.
Approach the border slowly watching for pedestrians and paying attention to road signs and instructions. If you know to switch your vehicle from MPH to KMH do that now, it will help
Wait for the Mexican border guards to wave you forward, have your windows rolled down, stop if directed to, and follow their instructions.
If you get pulled into a bay for secondary search DON’T FREAK OUT! It’s normal, answer questions, open doors, and just be smart about what you bring with you. Make sure to have your vehicle registration up to date, and if you are pulling a trailer have that registration as well. You may be asked to present it. NO GUNS OR AMMO you will go directly to jail No excessive Alcohol, fresh meat, poultry, veggies, fruits, cheese, etc.
Once you clear the border check, WELCOME TO MEXICO!!
Try not to run over the windshield cleaner people they are aggressive but just trying to make a buck. Drive slowly through them and they will part like the Red Sea. Pay close attention to posted speed limits in the border town of Sonoyta, if it says 40 KMH go 37 KMH. Keep a line of cars behind you is my strategy. At stop signs you will want to perform a perfect Drivers ED stop and look.
If for some reason you do get pulled over DON’T FREAK OUT! It happens, DO NOT TRY TO BRIBE OR PAY ON THE STREET. This is not good to do, and it only encourages this behavior. Tell them you will go to the police station and pay. They will take you license DON’T FREAK OUT! It’s normal. There you will pay the fine for
whatever it is they said you did usually not that much and be on your way.
Always have some cash with you on the way down, lots of place’s won’t take credit cards and the police station does not, believe me I know. But all places do accept USD.
Once you are outside of town you can increase speed and the posted highway speed limit is just for a reference, there are no Hwy Patrol officers running traffic here. Just drive safely as this is a two-lane road and sometimes there are slower vehicles in your lane. Be very safe while passing, as people really like to see how fast their vehicles can go out here. You have about a 45 min to 1 hour drive after you cross the border to Puerto Peñasco (Rocky Point). Enjoy the scenery, there are no other towns between the border town of Sonoyta and Puerto Peñasco.
Early Bird Registration is available at 35% off, priced at $75 for one vehicle holding up to four people. Full-price registration is $115 for the same. If you have more than one vehicle, registration quantities go up to two and three vehicles. Have a party of four or more?
